10.6.10: Life requires cold beers

Here's my day today:

Rex woke up at 6:30 and was ready to play, so we did. The same games we played yesterday: trains, money, airplane. At 8 we made french toast and chocolate milk for breakfast, got dressed and took Greg to work. On the way home, Rex looked pretty drunk he was so tired and was asleep before we left the office parking lot. This was at 9:20.

When we got home, I carefully moved him into his bed, where he slept until 1.

During the nap, I did some yoga (I've been feeling really (up) tight lately), did some homework, took a shower, took a nap, blogged a bit, blow dried the hair...the usual pittle around the house stuff that you do when you fail to plan your day.

Rex woke up ready to play again so we played trains briefly before changing his diaper and making PB&J sandwiches, cheese, and grapes with a side of milk for lunch. After lunch we packed up in the car still without shoes. 2:00 more or less.

Errand #1: UCCU to get cash to fund our month. As previously mentioned, we use cash for our daily spending now instead of credit cards. Saved us a ton of money last month.

Errand #2: Costco for Greg's prescription, chocolate chips, cheese, and possibly new shoes for Rex. We accomplished the first 3.

Errand #3: Greg's office to drop off the prescription.

Errand #4: Target to look for shoes for Rex. Failed again, but I did finally buy the black shelf for the wall by the front door that I've been eyeing for months--and for about 1/2 the price I had intended on paying.

Errand #5: Roberts' Arts and Craft for a wreath form. Failed again. They were sold out, but Rex did get a rather awesome orange balloon, which he wore around his wrist until Greg took it off around 7.

Errand #6: Timpanogos Academy to borrow a text book to take to class with me next week to analyze.

Errand #7: (It's 4:oo now) Back to Greg's office to meet with some financial planners about a better life insurance policy and possibly starting a retirement fund.

Errand #8: Screw it. The financial planners stressed me out with how much money we aren't saving but should be and how we are otherwise not properly providing for our future so we went home.

Rex saw me bring the chocolate chips in from the car, and I felt bad that he had to sit and listen to those guys for an hour, so I gave him some to snack on while I stopped hyperventilating. Then I made dinner--spaghetti.

After dinner, we all went to the Provo Towne Centre Mall to get Rex some shoes. He did not want to put on shoes and screamed and cried every time we tried. We eventually wrestled him down and put on some Converse. So we bought those. $25. A little more than I wanted to spend but he only has one pair of shoes, and even the ugly shoes at Payless were $20.

Lastly, we let Rex wear himself out at the play place in the mall for about 45 minutes.

7:44 we return home and go through the bedtime routine. Rex went down wonderfully.

8: I went through the post-bedtime routine of cleaning the house, doing dishes and putting toys away.

I came downstairs; Greg and I reviewed the budget and now I'm doing this.

Life just requires a good cold beer at the end of the day. But I think that if it didn't it would hardly be worth living. Today was a long day and the financial planners stressed me out, but I also got to see some friends that I haven't seen for a while; bought the shelf I'd been coveting; played with Rex; and had several good conversations with Rex. When you get to the end of the day and don't need a cold beer, maybe you didn't do enough with your day. God only gives you so many days, why waste any on sitting around and not getting tired. And so break out the beer, or as in my case today, Root Beer float.
