10.5.10: Some days I could really use a beer

Starting at midnight:

Greg wants to watch just one more episode of X-Files Season 3. It was a good episode, but still we didn't get to bed until 12: 30 and then reading of the scriptures (I know, I'm so righteous) and then prayers (again, how righteous), and finally sleep.

5:09 am I hear Rex crying/whining. I try to ignore it for a while, hoping that maybe he'll go back to sleep or play with the pile of toys I left in his crib the night before. Oh, of course, neither one happened. So I have to go check on him, thinking that maybe he just wants a drink. Also not that. When I walked in the room, he started handing me all the toys from his crib and asks to get out, and then down, and then he runs out of the room. He was ready to play. And play we did. We put up his train set; we put his coins in a muffin tin; we looked at his scrap book; we played with his box of popcorn and lentils; we went grocery shopping; we ate breakfast; we did the dishes. By 9 Rex was so tired he was running into walls and falling on his face, so I let him take a nap. And me too. Did I mention that around 5:30 am Greg came into the kitchen and said he hadn't been asleep all night and was feeling sick?

At noon, Rex's oh-so-sweet little cries awaken me from a bizarre dream that I'm not so sad I missed the end of. I changed Rex's diaper and the playing continued. Then we made tuna and had lunch. Then I put my running clothes on and slowly convinced Rex to go outside, but he refused to put his shoes on. Funny how one day his shoes fit and the next they don't? Just as I was getting the jogger out, it starts to rain, so now it's 1 pm and we're heading back inside.

I decided to make dinner, or at least start. Meatloaf. Rex sat on the counter and directed the music--the Primary Children's songbook, which I downloaded for free from the LDS church website; he's quite the little conductor after watching so many hours of Conference this weekend. By the time we finished with that, the rain had stopped so we went on a run. Rex still refused to put his shoes on so we didn't get to stop at a park, which is fine because it was getting late. It was about 2:25 by the time we got home. My mom called soon thereafter so I chatted with her for a while. Rex, in the meantime, brought me his plane to throw around for him.

2:55 I finally got in the shower. Blow dried my hair; make up; curled hair; changed poopy diaper; got dressed. And still had about 20 minutes before I had to leave for class. At this point I was getting a little excited about getting to play with Rex for a while, but first I wanted a snack so I peeked in the fridge, and spilled a glass of milk and a glass of orange juice. Rex was so kind as to help me clean it up. Really, he helped me. He got a rag and cleaned. He's such a good little boy.

Now I had about 10 minutes of playtime left so I got a towel out and dragged Rex around for a while. He thought it was so funny. And then I dropped him off at his friend Hailey's, after bribing him with chocolate chips to stay. I then ran to the bus stop and to class I went.

Class.

Greg and Rex picked me up at 7. They were both a little delirious from lack of sleep so I drove home. They laid on the kitchen floor and I finished dinner. We ate dinner. 7:35 pm.

Rex stunk and I didn't want to let him go to sleep before 8 so I bathed him. And then cleaned his room and then scriptures, prayer, milk, bed.

No.

Rex reeled his little head back and threw up all over his bed. And then again all over the rocking chair.

After cleaning that up, I finally get to...do the dishes.

And then, I could use a beer. But I got chocolate milk.

And now (11:53 pm) it's bed time.

  1. Believe it or not you will look back and wish that you could have these days all over again. Just kidding. Some days are just yucky!
