10.29.10: Chili Cook Off

It was 8:30 when I put Rex to bed last night. He went down easily--he'd had a long day of playing and he likes being in his crib to boot. Next I went into the kitchen, a little giddy in my heart because we had gotten a $5 pizza for dinner so I excited at the prospect of nearly no dishes.

Not so.

Greg was cooking. Some of you may know that Greg is quite the cook and will go to any expense to have his creations exceed expectations. The down fall is that sometimes that expense is every dish in the house. Last night he only used about half.

But it was worth it.

Last night, Greg spent 3 hours making Rowdy Rex's Hotter 'n Hades Habanero Hellfire Chili. Among the usual chili ingredients of beans, bacon, hamburger and tomatoes, this chili also included six Anaheim chilies, 6 jalapeƱos, and 6 habaneros. According to Greg, it was fantastic.

And according to our ward judges at the chili cook off tonight it was amazing. Greg won, hands down, for the spiciest chili. And the crock pot was nearly licked clean when I went to pick it up.

We still have a bit in the fridge that I left aside for Greg's eating pleasure at a later date. (I'm not so into the hot stuff).

So having to wake up and do more dishes even though I'd already done the dishes, and we just had pizza for dinner was worth it. Congrats Gregory.

He won Hot Tamales, get it? Get it?
