Basketball

Rex, after I forgot to sign him up last year and lots of reminding from him this year, played basketball this year.  And he really liked it.  Which was nice.  When he played t-ball a few years ago, it was a struggle to get him to pay attention during games and practice.  He wouldn't say he hated t-ball but he also opted not to play again.  But, basketball, he loved.  He complained almost the entire season about how short the season was--only 2 months.  He was not looking forward to it being over.  And then we missed the last two games because we were flying to and from Seattle--Rex thinks he only missed one.  Don't tell.

Though, I must say, after the first game, I was a bit concerned.  He didn't get a lot of play time and seemed pretty confused.  I talked to him that night and it turns out that he didn't even know the rules to basketball.  For Family Night on Monday, we learned how to play basketball and the next week, he ran the right direction and got the ball a few times.   By the end, he still wasn't the star of the team, but he was involved in the games and knew what was going on and, most importantly to me at least, he had fun.

Oh, I forgot to mention: during one game, he was playing like normal when he runs off the court and over to me while I'm yelling at him to go after the ball.  He then hands me his tooth and asks if we can get some water.  I thought that was pretty hard core--he knocked a (baby) tooth out and kept playing like it was no big deal.

On to pictures.

I haven't gotten his official pictures yet, but I snapped a few in the backyard one day.

Rex is the white kid in the following 2 pictures.

Alice during one of Rex's games.  She was a pretty good cheer leader...Henry was a 2-year-old monster for most of the games.
Again, the white kid in the white jersey.
I was the Team Mom this year, which was nice.  I did it, not to be nice, but in order to manipulate the situation to better suit me.  I figured that if the Coach knew me and knew my kid and knew I was doing stuff for him, then he'd be more aware of Rex and make sure Rex didn't sit on the bench too long.  It worked.  I mean, Rex still sat on the bench, but Coach did a good job of rotating the players through so everyone got about the same amount of play time.  And being Team Mom was super easy.  I want to do it for baseball and t-ball this season but the last game is just around my due date, so....we'll see.  Anyway, the team party was at Cici's Pizza, which is disgusting but was what everyone else wanted (I was voting for Chuck-E-Cheese).  All I had to do was make the reservations and pick up a few balloons.  I also got flowers for the coach, which Greg mocked but I couldn't think of anything else.  Oh, and I had to eat Cici's for dinner.  The sacrifices.  Rex is already excited about playing again next year.  Now just to get through baseball season.
