When Grandpa comes to town...

...we break all the rules.  My parents--my dad in particular--insist that they are the grandparents so they don't have to follow any of the normal rules at our house--like bedtime or candy for dinner.  When my dad came for a weekend at the end of February after a business trip to Charleston  SC, we didn't follow any rules.  He drove up late Friday afternoon after the conference in Charleston ended.  We went bowling and used bumpers--which is breaking the rules if you're hardcore like my dad.

We even let Rex use the ski thing-y until he realized he was the only one using it and decided to be an adult and throw it.  Rex was actually winning for the first half of the game, then he got bored and went to the arcade.

G-Pa and Rex waiting to see how many pins Rex would hit--notice Rex also did not wear bowling shoes.
When we got home, Rex showed G-Pa how to shoot the bow and arrow--inside.
On Saturday, we skipped Alice's nap to go the Museum of the Waxhaws in Waxhaw, NC.  It was a colonial retelling of the demise of the Waxhaw Indians, complete with recreated village and real cemetery   I decided not to discuss this museum with my Diversity professor.  Something about the Waxhaws killing themselves due to warfare and not small pox just didn't seem like it would sit right with her.
This is definitely NOT allowed--Greg may be Southern, but the rest of us aren't.
On Sunday, Greg took my dad on a tour of the property where they panned for gold, waded in the creek, and, just in general, got dirty.  I made dinner--yes, I'm that mom who never goes outside because I'm always in the kitchen, never barefoot though--I have lots of slippers.

Notice Alice has her pan all ready for some mining.

Climbing down to the creek.

My dad left Monday afternoon.  Just after he left, this happened.  See where rule breaking gets you...a glorious 2 hour nap.  Love.  Maybe my parents show visit more often.
