March 12, 2013...and the next few days

 March 12, 2013 8:0something pm

Me:  Good night Rex.  I hope you enjoyed your last day being 3.
Rex: Mom, I can't be four tomorrow. I'm still the same size.

I had to put him on the height board the next morning to convince him that he'd grown.

Last year Rex refused to turn 3.  He wanted to stay 2 forever.  Only when I threatened to take his presents back did he agree to be 3.

March 13, 2013: Rex is FOUR!

We started the day with present opening.  He got to open 2 presents.  One from us.  One from Alice.
Check my butt out.  Seriously.  That's why I put this picture in here.

We got ready and went to Joy School.  Rex took some cupcakes to share--green and red, just like he likes them.  Alice and I went running and then to the library.
Our day went on as usual.  Lunch.  Nap. Quiet time.  After quiet time, I made an extra effort to play with just Rex.  We had a good time playing Cars 2 and having our cars go on lots of secret messages.

Then Dad came home and the fun got started.  Rex wanted to open his presents before dinner.  So he did.  He opened each present, then insisted that each toy get taken out of its box and played with before he would open the next. Greg says Rex is such a Roberts (everything equal and fair).

Rex got plenty of gifts.  He didn't even notice that he didn't get one from us.  Oops.  We ordered it, but it took 2 days longer to arrive than promised.

After present opening, the kids (and Greg) went outside and played while I made dinner.

Rex requested pot stickers and salad.  And he actually ate it.  I was surprised.
Then the kids played some more.
Last, Rex blew out his candles and we ate red and green non chocolate cupcakes.  Gross.  But Rex liked them.

Friday, our present to Rex finally arrived.  We got him some caterpillars.  I was super excited.  I thought he would just love looking at them and observing them and in other ways being a scientists (he likes to do experiments)--he wasn't as excited as I thought he should be.

Saturday, because we don't do birthday parties for our kids (we decided we'd rather spend party money on doing something really cool as a family), we went mini golfing.  That's was Rex really wanted to do.  Go golfing like at the beach.  We couldn't find a place as intricate as the putt putt at the beach, Rex didn't seem to mind.  Rex beat was by like 3 holes (he plays spend golf).  Greg beat me by 3 strokes.  Alice tripped and scrapped her finger pretty bad around hole 10 and made Greg carry her the rest of the course.

And that my friends, is a Baker family birthday.  Sorry no funny commentary or crazy analysis today.  Just pictures and explaination.  The way Hannah likes it.  Too bad she's on a mission.

  2. Fun day! My kids love those remote control cars too. We have so many now I have no idea which remote goes to which car.
