Weird thing about me #1

#1.  I'm a closet environmentalist--or one of convenience or a semi-environmentalists.  I do things like refuse to buy paper towels or paper napkins or paper plates because they just fill up landfills.  I clothe diapered Alice for about 17 months (she's grown out of all her clothe diapers and I haven't ordered any more).  I didn't even use wrapping paper this Christmas--we used brown grocery bags and the bag packing paper that Amazon uses. And, I only heat to 60 degrees in the winter.  You should have to wear a sweater, even in your house, all winter, otherwise you're heating your house too warm.   Sixty is a bit chilly, though, to be honest, even with a sweater-- you should see what some (Jack) of the Joy School kids wear to our house to stay warm.  Grant it we do live in a large, old house with almost not sunlight (it's in a forest), but I could also turn the heat up--maybe next winter when we live in a newer house I'll heat to like 63 or something crazy like that. My poor dad sat in front of the space heater the entire time he was here last month and my poor brother-in-law didn't believe me when I told him my house was cold and that he should dress warm.  He had to borrow some of Greg's clothes when he came for Christmas.

Did I mention that heat goes down to 55 at night?  Mornings are cold.

Well, the children and I have found that the warmest room in the house is the bathroom in the kitchen.  So every morning, we get a box of toys, a few blankets, go into the bathroom and shut the door.   And we stay nice and warm.  We play for about an hour before it's time for breakfast.

A few days ago, the kids decided the house was still too cold to leave the bathroom for breakfast.  So they took their breakfast in the bathroom.

And there you have it, weird thing about me #1.

  1. Don't hate on me, but I heat my house to 70 in the winter. And I live in California. And we still use space heaters in the bathroom. I hate being cold. If I ever come visit it might have to be the summer. Scratch that, maybe the spring since I have a feeling you wouldn't use the a/c to my liking

  2. I'm pretty sure that setting up a dining table in the bathroom is against the health code. (But maybe they don't have one in NC). But I'm sure your bathroom is clean enough to eat in (or give birth in).

  3. I'm with you on the heating/non-heating thing...not so much on the landfill. I think there is a giant landfill with the name WILSON on the sign...yikes. Amazing how much trash we go through.
Also, the heating thing- I think our thermostat is wrong, but because it says it's 64 in my house and I'm freezing. I went over to the new house and it said 55, and it felt like my old house set at 64. When Pam and Randy was working on the house, they set it at 65 and it felt like a tropical heat wave. Like, I didn't have to wear my coat and beanie inside like I do in my old house. So either way, my old house is cold, and I can't wait to be in the tropics this Saturday.
