I nearly forgot to pat myself on the back for being an awesome mom (read this is oozing sarcasm--just talk to Rex and he'll tell you all about how horrible I am). Anyway, a while ago I noticed an old acquaintance on Facebook had book movie nights with her kids with themed dinners. I thought it was cute. Add to that, that our neighbor mentioned no less than 1 million times how much he enjoyed a few movie nights we did last fall. So now we are doing monthly movie nights, but in order to attend you must first read the book. We let Derick cheat on this first one because he didn't have enough warning. Two weeks ago, we made egg-nest cookies, which are disgusting, and watch "Mr. Popper's Penguins," which had nothing in common with the book other than the name, a man named Peter Popper and some penguins. Otherwise, not even the penguins or the children had the same name. I enjoy Jim Carrey so I didn't mind the movie, and the book isn't very relatable today, so I'll forgive the director.
Now we're reading Harriet the Spy, which is much longer than I thought so hopefully we'll make it by the end of the month. Next month we'll read Alice in Wonderland, probably watch both movies, because that's what Alice wants to be for Halloween and The Witches, which may be too scary, if we have time before Halloween. December is a Christmas Carol. But any suggestions for November?

Looking at our book case...How about "To Kill a Mockingbird" or "The Giver" or "Charlotte's Web"?
