Sister Wives

I have a theory: polygamy was for women, not for men.  I've heard other theories that it was to "build the kingdom" or so that the men could "take care of more women."  Maybe.  But I think it was for the women.  Mostly men were gone on missions or heading up the move west and the women were alone.  Most of the Saints had left their families as they gathered with the Saints and were alone.  Polygamy created large families.  Women united by marriage to one man working together to raise and care for children.

And sometimes I wish we still had polygamy (minus the whole sharing a husband thing) and I know who my sister-wives would be.  Aside from my actual sisters, I would not mind living on a compound with Lexy and Taya and Gabby and Katelyn and Laura and, of course, Becky.  But I already live on a compound with Becky.   It would be a sister-wife compound full of children and love.

A few weeks ago we went on a sister-wife adventure in the mountains while the husbands had their own bro-matic mountain biking adventure.  We started at Sky Top Orchard, which I had been interested in visiting for several years now because I'd heard about how pretty it was.   And it was overrated.  We drove 2 hours to get there and while it was pretty, it was huge and the hike from the parking lot to through the orchard carrying my giant bag and the baby and practically dragging Henry and Alice while giving Rex a constant lecture at not throwing apples or climbing on this or that or keep up or don't get so far ahead.  If it weren't for the sister-wives I'm not sure we would have escaped alive.  Next year, if we go apple picking, we'll go some place closer.  The best part was that because the orchard was so big, I could let my kids climb the trees without workers yelling at us, which the kids really enjoyed.

After apple picking, we went to a little deli that isn't that great and over-priced that one of the sister-wives just loves.  We finished off the day with a trip to a park.  Just a regular park where the kids actually played and had fun--best part of the day, the kids entertaining each other and having fun.  Then the 2 hour drive home.
