Or at least that's how it feels; like our entire life revolves around Rex. It's not his fault. He's just the oldest kid and the only one old enough to participate in lots of activities. But it's exhausting for all of us. Bedtime is not closer to 10 than it is to 8 but wake up time is still 7:30 or before.
Luckily, for the most part, the other kids are flexible and happy to tag along as long as they get to play too.
Two weeks ago, Rex had cub scout day camp. I signed up to help 2 days so Alice could go too. Henry would have been able to go too, but he still refuses to stop playing long enough to take himself to the bathroom. Rex, the natural pessimist, had a good time but also had plenty to complain about--not getting to swim because a kid threw up in the pool, not getting to use a canoe because I didn't take him to the right swim test. Grant it Rex did say the Monday following camp that he missed camp. Alice, on the other hand, was just about bouncing off the walls going to and coming home from camp. She "had a blast Mom! Being a Pixie Scout is a blast!" I might have to go all week next year just so Alice can go (and hopefully Henry, if he ever figures out the whole potty training thing).

| We even went to the Thursday night so Rex could pass of his last requirement for his Wolf Badge. It was so hot. |

| Alice and her bestie Lottie--Alice was upset because she had lost her YMCA yellow band. |

| On the last day of camp, a fire truck comes and sprays all the kids--it's mayheam |

Just about every other night, we're at a swim meet. More on swimming later, but Rex has to be at the meet by 5:30 and by the end of the season was swimming 6 events, which meant he wasn't done swimming until 8:30 or 9. Again, luckily, Alice and Henry are pretty flexible and were just as happy playing on the swing set for hours and hours as they were at home.

| Zora got really into clapping at Rex's championship swim meet on Saturday. |
 |
| Alice and Henry made up a bumper swing game. |
 |
| Henry spent one swim meet covering Zora with dirt. She didn't seem to mind much. |
But now everything is over--no more school, no more piano, no more dance, no more piano. The only thing that's not over, according to Rex, is summer. Lots and lots of summer left to come. Summer that will include an 8 o'clock bedtime because this mamma is tired.
Is pixie camp a real thing?
ReplyDeleteIt's all about Rex, but only one picture of him. I guess he was doing stuff so you took pictures of the rest...
