Best Vacation Ever: Part 3: Roberts Reunion

My sister made an astute observation: her, me and my cousin Catherine are the only grandkids to have been to all the Roberts Family Reunions--which have been going on for nearly 20 years now.  That is how much I love family reunions.

The Roberts Reunion is very different from the Robins one.  In one main area: Grandma Deon.  She bank rolls pretty much the whole thing so instead of meeting at parks for various events, Grandma rents giant houses in ridiculous locations so the whole family--all four generations of us--can sleep in the same house and eat very meal together.  That's important to her she said, that we all eat together.  This year's house was 20 minutes, but only about 5 miles, up a super steep, super scary, dirt/gravel road to the literal top of a mountain.  Once up there, Amber refused to drive back down.  Pretty much, we just spent all day every day hanging out around the house, followed by family dinner, a game or activity of some sort, putting the young'nes to bed, and lots of card games.  The highlight every year--So You Think You Can Dance.  I'll have to post the video in a separate post because it is that awesome.

We went straight from the Robins Reunion in Ogden to the Roberts one in Mt. Pleasant (Spanish Fork canyon).  We were there from Saturday night to Thursday morning, well the kids and I.  Greg left late Tuesday night to catch his early Wednesday flight back to NC.

Now for a collection of pictures from the reunion.

One day Autumn was sad that Amber got in the shower without her so we went "looking" for her.  Autumn and Alice actually had quite a bit of fun hanging out in the empty bathtub.
My cousin's wife MacKenzie (who happens to actually be my 3rd cousin on my dad's side) brought her 4 week old baby.  Alice thought she was such a big girl holding the baby.
Rex made a car craft one day.
Asian baby again--seriously, could she get any cuter?
Mom bought all her grandkids matching outfits to wear one day, but then the three girls decided to nap at different times all day long so it wasn't until after dinner that we managed to get them together.  Our photo shoot didn't go too well.

The basement had a rad theater room with at least 6 couches, which made a perfect gathering place for the whole family and the perfect place for all the little boy cousins to run off to for various dance parties and other sorts of rough housing.  I barely saw Rex all week.  Pretty sure there is nothing better in the world than cousins.
The high roller in all her glory.
Wednesday night is always Traci's favorite: Family Olympics.  We did not do so well this year thanks to the loss of Hannah to her mission and the addition of a few too many toddlers.

See what I mean--Alice running the complete wrong direction.
And then the little girls got bored and decided to play with Amber's tampons, which totally grossed out the two high school cousins left.  They were clean.  Geez.
And then the older boys discovered Rock Band and played all night for a few nights.

Rex saying good bye to Mason--his second cousin.  Rex was in cousin heaven for a like a week.
We cleaned the house and packed up Thursday morning, then headed back to Provo to clean my house and beg our tenets to stay.  Happy birthday to me.  Then we headed back to my dad's parents' in American Fork where my mom got me an ice cream cake and we sang happy birthday and then went to bed--it had been a very long day.  Friday we went back to Provo to check on the house and tenets again, make sure the handyman was on his way to fix up a few things, and then headed to the airport.

  3. It was a great time and yes you do owe your dance to a seperate post. Although Hannah wasn't here to cheat- and be a part of it- your family still rocked it! Hahaha, love the picture of Grandma...and just one small correction - Ben was only 4 weeks ;) -but it is your blog so leave it if you like. Hope your birthday turned out to be happy, with the whole tenent thing and all. See you next reunion!

  4. Another correction: you and Mackenzie are only 4th cousins. Her mom and I are 3rd cousins, which led to an awkward moment with Amber's mother-in-law when I got confused as to who my children are and who my nieces are and started to tell her we were 3rd cousins. Oh well, maybe we are and just haven't found out yet.
