*&^% Pinterest

A while back I noticed a tutorial on Pinterest for a 20-minute ruffle dress.  Then I noticed the ruffle fabric at Hobby Lobby in the extra color of a sweater I'd bought for Rex as the end of last season.  My children would have matching Christmas outfits.  Interest huge red flag: the directions for the dress were the following: trace a dress you have on to ruffle fabric, cut out, sew up side seams.  I should have known better, but I tried it anyway.  I bought the $11 a yard fabric and got to work.  I decided that since I had paid $11/yard for the dumb fabric I  would make a pattern first and make sure it fit Alice before actually cutting the fabric.  I spent an evening making the pattern.  It was too small.  So I spent a second night making a second pattern.  It didn't fit either but if I just adjusted here and there it would work.  Night number three I cut the fabric and sewed up the seams.  The dress was huge and the seams looked terrible.  I went to bed.  I tried it on Alice and thought I could maybe make it work.  Then I noticed a dress in her closet that would work well for a pattern.  Night number four, I managed to salvage enough fabric from the huge dress to remake the dress.  It turned out ok. Alice walks fast enough that the glaring mistakes aren't toooo noticeable.

I won't even get into the yelling, screaming, threatening and 3 adults it took to get Rex into his matchy-matchy Sunday outfit.  It's a good thing they passed the Sacrament at church because I needed it.

Oh the lengths I go to for things that just are not in the least bit important.

By the way, one of my New Years resolutions is to make a real dress for Alice using a real pattern and it make it look nice.  Something I would be proud to show my mom, and maybe even my grandma...but probably not Grandma...maybe the next year I'll make something to show Grandma.  Obviously I've learned my lesson.
