really like, like cheese ravioli with roasted walnuts. A very mature taste. The rest of the week was cold salads, which were good but would've been better during the summer, but tasty nonetheless.
Things I didn't like--well, not buying meat is not cheaper. I spent just as much buying a million types of cheese and nuts to make up for the lack of meat as I did as meat in previous week. I also had to buy more produce than I usually do, which is also more expensive than the proceeded whatever else I usually buy.
I can't say that I necessarily felt better because Rex and I made cookies to take to a play date that we then missed because Alice was sleeping so guess who ate all those cookies? I'll give you a hint: it wasn't Rex or Greg.
And now a smattering of un-related pictures of my beautiful children.
| Rex is terrified of swings, but spent a day at the mall jumping off all the climbing structures. |
Totally understand. We actually become kind of vegetarians by accident, plus watching Food Inc and others...3-4 weeks and no meat (except occasionally for one meal of soup) and we're doing great! Cute kiddos!-BG
ReplyDeleteoh boy...so much to say about those cute kids. I can't wait to see them again. And yes Autumn is going to make Alice look like a fatty-Alice is huge, especially in that snow suit!

I've been contemplating a vegetarian life as well - we have some friends who are vegans, and they make their life style seem pretty awesome (although I would never give up dairy...ever). I don't think it will happen any time soon though. For now, it's just less meats in general. By the way, did you know you can make pudding out of avocados? And it tastes good?! Crazy!
ReplyDeleteWell, we already discussed this, but I'll comment anyway. I feel the same way. I don't think I would ever be a strict vegetarian, but my feelings on the word of wisdom are leading us to eating much less meat. But if I go out to eat, I want to feel free to splurge and order a nice steak, or whatever. Right now, we are on week #4 of doing only one night of meat per week. I have had so much fun finding delicious recipes, and have been surprised at how easy it has been to cut out the meat. If you do want to reduce your produce costs, try Aldi. They are dirt cheap...and at least the Aldi in our town tends to have produce of the same (or better) quality than the nearby stores. I have actually found my grocery bill to be noticeably cheaper each week, and I also discovered that we can only handle so much salad around here...so I've been trying hearty soups which go over a lot better. Keep it up!
